Just 2 hours by air North from Rio, lies a very special city called Salvador, the capital of Bahia State. Bahia represents the artistic soul of Brazil. All the components that give Brazil its special flavor and flair, its music, dance, literature and faith have been largely influenced by Bahia. Visitors will discover a city and a cultural identity that are unique in the world.
Salvador is one of the oldest cities in Brazil. Actually, it was the colonial capital from 1549 to 1763. During this period, the wealth generated by sugarcane and cocoa plantations turned Bahia into an enormously prosperous state. The legacy of this wealth can be seen in beautiful baroque churches and buildings throughout the city. The legacy of this period is not just in buildings and monuments. .The slaves for the plantations were imported from Africa, along with their cultural heritage, as they adapted to the New World. This gave Bahia its unique flavor. You can also savor the richness of this culture and History in your program, with themes and events inspired in the folklore and pageantry of a Candomblé / Voodoo ceremony. You can also consider a visit to an authentic sugarcane plantation at water's edge.
