Corcovado is where you will have the best view of the city. Located at the top of the Serra da Carioca, the statue is 32 meters high and it's the symbol of the city. You can reach it by car (toll), or by a tram which crosses the Tijuca Forest.
2 - Sugar Loaf
Located at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, you can reach the top of the two hills by taking a cable car. You can catch the cable car at the bottom at Praia Vermelha. From the tops of the hills you will have a excellent view of the city.
3 - Lapa Arches
Constructed in 1744, the arches were used to carry water from the Carioca River to the colonial city. The contrast with the newer parts of the city makes it a must-see point. At night, all kinds of people in the streets around the arches can be found enjoying themselves.
4 - Botanical Garden
Containing more than 8.000 species of trees and plants, the Botanical Garden was created during the days of the empire to receive plants from all over the world. The Garden is a place to relax and feel pure nature inside the city.
5 - Municipal Theater
The Municipal Theater built in 1909 is a replica of the Paris Opera House and has its own ballet company. The sculptures and decorations inside are simply astonishing.
6 - Tijuca National Park
Spread along the west side of the city, the Tijuca Forest is more than 120 square kilometers of flora, fauna and unbelievable views of the city.
